Donor of the Month: Bank of America

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBSC) has been proud to partner with Bank of America since 2009. Bank of America is committed to removing barriers to economic success for vulnerable populations by supporting workforce development and education, basic needs, and community development. Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of the company’s national partners in this effort, supporting our programs in a variety of ways.

Bank of America has invested more than $372,000 in numerous programs at BBBSC, but most recently helped us launch the mentor2.0 program in order to help more youth gain skills, education and employment. Mentor2.0 is a technology-enhanced, school-based, one-to-one mentoring program that ensures high school students in low-income communities have the socio-emotional skills and support needed to graduate high school prepared for post-secondary education and the workforce. Ultimately, mentor2.0 advances economic opportunity in low-income communities. Overall, Bank of America deployed $200 million in philanthropic giving in 2017. Additionally, Bank of America employees spent 2 million hours supporting and volunteering with local organizations and chapters.

BBBSC was proud to be selected as the sole beneficiary in the Denver market for a Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Award in 2015. This award recognized Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado for being on the frontlines of tackling tough community issues that are vital to Denver’s long-term economic vitality and provided BBBSC with a $200,000 unrestricted grant and complimentary leadership training. Additionally, in 2016 our Little, Luley, was selected as a Bank of America Student Leader, receiving an 8-week paid internship with a local non-profit and all-expenses paid leadership trip to D.C.

We are grateful for all that Bank of America does for BBBSC and for encouraging their employees to be involved throughout the year. We were honored to select Bank of America as our 2016 Big Shot Corporate Partner of the Year for their holistic support of BBBSC. A special thanks to the following employees who volunteer their time:

  • Brendan Goffinet, Board of Directors
  • Christian Phelps, Mentor
