Every day, Xcel Energy powers millions of homes, businesses and communities. As a leader in delivering renewable energy, Xcel Energy has committed to deliver Colorado customers an estimated 85% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from 2005 levels by 2030.
Together, BBBSC and Xcel Energy take a collaborative approach to enhance one-to-one mentoring with STEM education and STEM activities. The company has been the inaugural sponsor of BBBSC STEM Day since 2015. This year, 18 Big and Little matches in BBBSC’s Community Mentoring Program attended BBBSC’s STEM event at BOA Technology, Inc. Xcel Energy provided STEM activities for matches along with corporate partners Accenture and BOA. Matches got to learn about the engineering design process using Newton’s First Law in action, understand how energy is produced in their city working with solar cars and circuit kits, and matches got an introduction into biomechanics experimenting in BOA’s performance fit lab.
STEM Day is an opportunity for BBBSC matches to become more exposed to career paths through various hands-on activities, demonstrations, and experiments. Xcel Energy’s support plays a huge role in making this event happen, and we are lucky to have such an excellent partner supporting our matches in different ways!
Additionally, Xcel Energy supports BBBSC through grant funding from the Xcel Energy Foundation, event sponsorship, and employee involvement on our Board of Directors and Associate Board.
