Just 10 months ago, Bob and Harley were matched in our Community Program. The pair connected quickly and their big personalities and zeal for life were an instant catalyst for their friendship. Both brim with energy and a love for staying active. They bonded over swimming, bike rides, and trips to the YMCA. They also share a passion for learning and exploring and this has inspired activities like geocaching and hiking, museum tours, and even snowshoeing.
A musical prodigy, Harley taught himself the keyboard and electric guitar. Having mastered multiple instruments, he was eager to take on a new challenge by trying his hand at basketball. Bob, who has coached before, showed Harley the ropes and encouraged him to join a team. Harley ended up having several successful practice sessions and quickly scored his first basket in a game. Bob was right there by Harley’s side the entire time. Harley was comforted knowing he could look up from the court to see Bob cheering him on in the stands. The pair next decided to tackle golf. Harley said, “What I love most about our match is that we practice basketball and golf. We have tons of fun together!”
Bob and Harley are both incredibly friendly, vivacious, and care deeply for everyone around them. It is impossible not to learn something new after talking to either one of them. Rapidly approaching their one year anniversary, neither can believe how quickly the time has flown by. There’s no doubt that they will go on to acquire more unique skills together and most importantly, keep each other laughing.
