Shane Portfolio embodies BBBSC’s hope for every Little who comes through our programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado provides mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Youth like Shane, who had so much potential and just needed a positive adult male influence who could be a part of supporting his growth and showing him what was possible.
Growing up in extreme poverty with a single mother, Shane needed someone to open his eyes to new opportunities and to help him overcome adversity to succeed. His Big Brother Paul entered his life at a critical time and helped Shane find the right path that has led to the incredible success that he credits BBBSC and his mentor Paul for today.
After a successful career in the military, Shane joined Comcast, where he has developed and thrived to become a Senior Vice President of Engineering and a well-respected leader at the company. Shane also has a wonderful family and two teenage boys.
Shane shared his story of how mentoring transformed his life with an audience of fellow Comcast employees, BBBSC matches and supporters at the first event of our new virtual series Igniting Potential: Stories of Impact.
Shane expressed the urgency by stating, “Reach out to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado today. Please understand the heaviness of a child’s heart and mind right now. It’s up to us to do everything possible. The urgency is now. Don’t wait to do something next year or when things get better, do it now, people are in pain right now.”

BBBSC is grateful to Shane for sharing his story on the transformational power of mentoring along with his service on our Board of Directors. We are also thankful that Comcast has embraced and supported Shane and hope it inspires others to help provide more resources to help more youth in Colorado who could benefit from a caring adult mentor.
Comcast has also supported their employees to become Bigs, with 14 employees currently in active relationships with Littles in our mentor2.0, Community based and Sports Buddies programs. Additionally, Comcast has played a key role in supporting Colorado families, including many of the families served by BBBSC, through the Internet Essentials program. Since 2011, Internet Essentials from Comcast has connected 8 million people from low-income families to the internet at home.
