Tanya says that her Big Sister Debbie was the reason she broke out of the cycle of poverty. She is now a nurse at UCHealth Memorial Hospital. Tanya has three children, all of whom graduated from college, and four thriving grandchildren.
A proud moment for Tanya was when her oldest daughter graduated from Howard University (pictured together). For her, that represented the end of the cycle of poverty and teen pregnancy.
Tanya’s children have heard about Debbie all their life. Seeing the difference mentorship made in their mom’s life inspired them to become mentors. Tanya’s middle daughter was a Big Sister, and her son is planning to be a Big Brother too!
“It starts with just one person to help you feel that ‘I want different, I can do different, I can be different.’” – Little Sister Tanya
