Preparing Youth for Life After High School
The Big Futures Program at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is designed to empower all BBBSC youth grades 9-12 with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed beyond high school. Through career exploration, college readiness, and post-secondary planning, we ensure that every young person has a personalized plan for their future—whether that includes college, trade school, the workforce, or military service.
How It Works
Personalized Future Planning
- One-to-one mentorship and staff support to help youth set goals and create a realistic, achievable plan for life after high school.
- Guidance on college applications, scholarships, financial aid, career paths, and life skills development.
Career Exploration & Workforce Readiness
- Exposure to various career fields through job shadowing, career panels, and networking with industry professionals.
- Hands-on learning through resume workshops, interview prep, internships, and professional development opportunities.
College & Post-Secondary Readiness
- Support with college applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and campus visits.
- Information on alternative education options, including trade schools, apprenticeships, and military pathways.
Life Skills & Independence
- Workshops on financial literacy, time management, communication, and decision-making to help youth transition successfully into adulthood.
- Connections to community resources and support networks to ensure long-term success.
Safe & Supportive Experience
- Trained mentors and staff provide ongoing guidance and encouragement.
- Flexible participation—youth can engage in activities that align with their goals and interests.
How It Works
Big Futures is open to all BBBSC youth, 13 and older, looking for guidance and support in planning for post-secondary planning.
