Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado recently had an incredible time celebrating all things STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics—during our immersive STEAM Day at BOA®, and we’re still buzzing with excitement! This hands-on, high-energy day was designed to inspire our high school matches and ignite their passion for innovation, creativity, and future-ready skills.
With the help of some outstanding partners, Littles (and their Bigs) had the opportunity to explore the intersections of cutting-edge technology and real-world applications—equipping them with knowledge and experiences that will serve them well in both college and the workforce.
Why STEAM Education Matters for High Schoolers
In today’s rapidly evolving world, STEAM education is more than just a trend—it’s a critical foundation for success. High school students exposed to STEAM concepts gain problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and technological literacy, all of which are essential whether they pursue a university degree or jumpstart a career in a STEM-related field.

Highlights from STEAM Day at BOA®

Blend360 brought AI to life with a creative twist, introducing our students to the art of storytelling and game design using artificial intelligence. It was a powerful reminder of how creativity and technology go hand in hand.
Crocs led a meaningful and timely session on online safety, giving students practical tools to navigate the digital world with confidence and awareness.
Xcel Energy brought the spark, literally, with a hands-on workshop where students built circuits and even explored flight technology. Their interactive approach helped students see engineering from an entirely new perspective.
Our amazing host, BOA®, opened the doors to their Performance Fit Lab, where learning met innovation. From high-tech gear to biomechanics, students saw how STEAM is woven into everyday products and performance.
A special shout-out to Jaidie Vargas and Amigas In Tech, who led a fast-paced cybersecurity hackathon that introduced our students to the thrilling world of ethical hacking and digital defense. It was eye-opening and empowering!
